Thank you for taking the time to look at my knives. I am a member of the American Bladesmith Society and hold the rating of Master Smith. I have been making knives since the late nineteen-nineties. The primary steels I use are 1084 and 5160, and I also forge my own multi-layered patterned steel. All my knives are hand-forged so no two will be identical. I feel strongly about being the sole author of my blades and do all of my own work including sheaths.

How to Build A Forged Knife, by Jim Saviano
Various steels, each with different composition and properties, can be used to make knives. In selecting steel for forging knives, we are looking for the following characteristics: strength, toughness, wear resistance, ability to take an edge, and edge holding. Some also seek stain resistance, which is provided by high levels of chromium, however such levels make the steel unsuitable for forging.
Each of these character-istics can be gained by adding various elements to the makeup of the steel in its production. Yet a delicate balance must be maintained, since too much or too little of any of these elements can be problematic.
